Johnny Dee 78, Five Stars, Christmas Show

Pictured on the right is Johnny Dee's second release on Colonial called "Teenage Queen". You may notice it's a 78, and I will be adding it to my Johnny Dee page this next week. My page is only the Colonial label recordings, as trying to find every disc he has recorded, or even more difficult, that he wrote or was involved with, would be a daunting task. I have seen at least one web site that attempts to at least document the information, though with very few pictures. Back to the 78. If you believe price guides as gospel, this 78 is much more common than his big hit on 78, "Sittin In The Balcony". At least they recognize "Teen Age Queen" was on 78, and it's the first one I have actually seen for sale. I have seen many "Balcony" 78's for sale including one that continues to pop up on Ebay for a measly 69.00. After at least four listings, it still has not sold. My belief is that the prices are reversed in Rockin Records. 100-125 for "Balcony", is what "Teenage Queen" should be, and 50-75 for "Balcony" is more correct, but both are still too high. Neither is what I and many collectors call a Late 78. They were both released in 1957. Though even more difficult to find, "School Girl" by the Crescendos on 78 is another example of a follow up recording that was pressed on 78, but in very limited quantities. The idea was that they hoped that second record was as big as the first and worthy of release on 78 RPM.

There have been just a few interesting records that have appeared at my door over the last month. I have been giving the post woman a break. That and my wallet. For my web site, I will be adding Johnny Flamingo on Caddy 114, "I'll See You In My Dreams" and "My Girl", and Dottie Fergerson with the Five Stars, "Slow Burn",and "You And Me And Love" on the Kernal label. The latter will be put on my Five Stars page.

I did the annual Christmas show last night on KVMR. I certainly look forward to the program every year. It is the only time I play the songs, so it is just plain fun. I feel the same way with the Halloween show, but was unable to do it this year, due to station scheduling.
